In October, we announced the relaunch of MDR LAB with two additional programmes, Launch and Sell. Since we setup the LAB with Improve in 2017, we have had tremendous success in working with startups looking to find product market fit and accelerate their growth. In our conversations with people operating in the legaltech ecosystem, we constantly met those who had identified problems, directly or indirectly related to law, but they were too early in development for Improve, and that frankly drove us crazy.
On the less positive side, from our collective time working in accelerators, incubators and different investment communities, we have seen and spoken to a LOT of companies. And time and time again when we speak to these companies, they believe they have or are on the path to achieving product market fit. And unfortunately, for the vast majority, they aren’t. And in some cases, they don’t even know what Product Market Fit is.
In Law, this is particularly problematic. You often find founders that have say 10-15 years experience, and allege to ‘know the pain’. The issue with this, is that they are only considering their own experiences, and often haven’t spent enough time obsessing over the problem and engaging a variety of people to ensure they have the full picture.
So, on the one hand, we were so inspired by the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, and on the other, so desperate to help, that we decided to design and run a problem with these individuals in mind.
Launch is a programme targeted at early-stage entrepreneurs, so early that you maybe have an inkling of an idea but have no clue where to begin in building a business around the idea. Or maybe you have set up a company but are still grappling with the problem that you are trying to solve and if it is the right problem and the right solution.
Launch is for these people.
Launch is a 6-month programme designed to equip you with everything you need to know about building a business in legaltech. We’ve partnered with Founders Factory on the venture building curriculum and you’ll have access to in-house experts at Mishcon de Reya.
The programme is an immersive learning experience. You’ll learn as you build with access to coaches and experts to help you along the way. Additionally, there is some seed funding to support you while you build and then more to accelerate development.
