FT’s Global Legal Hackathon: our submission

We have submitted an entry to the global legal hackathon supported by the Financial Times, which invited organisations in the legal sector to develop solutions to problems created by the coronavirus pandemic.

A hackathon traditionally involves teams of professionals, software developers, designers and other experts working intensely over short periods of time to build prototype software solutions to problems identified by organisations, governments and individuals.

The team built an oracle that collects and processes data from official sources on COVID-19. This will help provide adaptable contracts that deal with temporal conditions that are applicable at local or regional levels, necessary to manage the unprecedented circumstances caused by the pandemic.

The team intends to continue this work with the Law Society, building out an example oracle that could be served across a set of legal firms acting as nodes to validate parametric clauses. They are looking to find other law firms or corporates who want to explore how to use oracle’s approaches to redefine their contractual relationships.
